Car Registration Process in UAE

Registering a car in the UAE is simple if you follow the right steps. Whether you live in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or other emirates, the process is similar but handled by different authorities.

This guide explains how to register a new or used car in the UAE.

  Who Handles Car Registration?

  • In Dubai → Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)

  • In Abu Dhabi → Abu Dhabi Police

  • In other emirates → Ministry of Interior service centers

Before visiting the registration center, prepare:

âś” Car insurance (valid UAE policy)
âś” Vehicle inspection certificate (if used car)
âś” Previous registration card (Mulkiya)

Step 1: Vehicle Inspection (For Used Cars)

If you are buying a used car, it must pass a vehicle inspection test.

New cars from dealerships usually don’t require inspection.

Submit your documents at the registration counter.

You will pay:

  • Knowledge/innovation fees (Dubai specific)

Step 4: Receive Registration Card (Mulkiya)

Once payment is completed:

  • Number plates are issued (if new vehicle)

 Annual Renewal Process

Car registration must be renewed every year.

Renewal requires:
